The Nanofluidics 2026 conference will take place at the Granlibakken-at-Tahoe Resort and Conference Center on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe. This beautiful alpine lake is encircled by 10,000-foot-tall mountains, pine forests, granite summits, and several world-class ski resorts within short distance of the hotel.

Granlibakken is a charming rustic resort situated in the pine forest near the lake and offers a mix of chalet-style and hotel-style rooms. Breakfast and dinner at Granlibakken are included with the conference registration, participants will be on their own for lunch. The hotel also has a cash bar, lobby with a fireplace, an outdoor heated lap pool and a hot tub, fitness center, and an on-site spa.
Granlibakken is located about 0.5 miles from Tahoe City on the shore of Lake Tahoe. Tahoe City offers a variety of choices of cafes and restaurants, as well as a picturesque pier and a walking path along the lake. Another good destination farther along is Truckee, a charming Western town (recently named "the coolest place to ski in the US" by Wall Street Journal) offering more restaurant and shopping choices. East Shore Regional Trail, located about 30 minutes from the lake, is a spectacular paved walking path along the shore of Lake Tahoe. Numerous restaurants are also available in Kings Beach and Incline Village, lakeside towns located on the way to this trail.

The Tahoe region is the winter sports capital of California, and Granlibakken is within easy driving/shuttle distance from several ski resorts.
Palisades Tahoe (which is on the Ikon Pass network) is the undisputed giant of the region, comprising two connected ski areas: Olympic Valley (formerly known as Squaw Valley) and Alpine Meadows. Palisades Tahoe is known for a nearly endless variety of expert skiing, but there are also many excellent choices for beginner and intermediate skiers. Usually, most of the beginner slopes are located at the top of the mountain, offering excellent views. The resort was also the home of the 1960 Winter Olympics and regularly hosts a variety of ski competition events, including being one of the few World Cup stops in North America.

Northstar California (which is on the Epic Pass network) is another large resort that offers a variety of beginner and intermediate terrain with some expert terrain options, including glade skiing. Homewood Resort is a smaller, more intimate resort closest to Granlibakken, which offers a slower pace and unbeatable views of the lake as it is right on the Lake Tahoe shores. Diamond Peak, Mount Rose, and Heavenly are other resorts located farther away from Granlibakken.

Tahoe-Donner Cross-Country and Royal Gorge are two other very large cross-country areas located about 30 minutes away from Granlibakken.

Snowshoeing trails are available right out of Granlibakken; there are many more snowshoeing trails throughout the region. There are also a number of sledding hills around the resort.

If you plan to ski, rentals are widely available throughout the region at the base of the resorts and in ski shops in Tahoe City and Truckee. Rentals range from basic carving ski sets to high-performance demos of the latest gear. If you are thinking of purchasing ski boots, local North Tahoe shops are famous for custom ski boot fitting (contact organizers for more information). Similarly, cross-country equipment is available for rent at the ski areas. Snowshoeing equipment is available for rent in Granlibakken. For sledding options contact the resort front desk.
